Instead of giving your mom a gift, give her an experience. Of course, you can gift the typical box of chocolate and call it a day, but making homemade chocolates with your mom would make her day a unique and special one!

Here are two recipes you can use to celebrate your mother and create lasting memories!


Chocolate truffles are a quick and easy to make dessert, yet a delicious and indulgent one!


1 package, 16 oz. chocolate sandwich cookies, such as Oreos

1 package, 8 oz. of low-fat cream cheese, softened at room temperature

2 cups, 8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate wafers, melted

Process the cookies in the food processor with the cream cheese until smooth, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

In a double boiler (a heat proof bowl set over a small saucepan with a small amount of water in the bottom), melt your chocolate wafers at medium heat until smooth.

Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls, set on a parchment-covered baking sheet, and refrigerate for 10 minutes.

Take the truffles out and, using two forks, dip them into the melted chocolate, turning to remove excess. Lay the truffles on wax paper, and immediately sprinkle with the topping of your choice, such as sesame seeds and sprinkles (shown in the photo), crushed nuts, sifted icing sugar, a mix of sifted cocoa powder and icing sugar, etc. Allow to set for at least 30 minutes before enjoying. It is best to keep the truffles in the fridge, and consume them within 1-2 weeks.


1/2 cup unsifted flour

1/2 cup finely chopped almonds

1/4 cup brown rice syrup

1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1/4 cup butter

2 oz. Clasen Semi Sweet Chocolate Coating Wafer, melted

Stir together flour and nuts. In a 1-quart saucepan, stir together syrup, sugar and butter. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, then remove and stir in flour mixture until well blended. Preheat oven to 350°F.

Form oval shapes with teaspoons of mixture, placing them 3" apart onto a foil-lined cookie sheet, and spread evenly with a rubber spatula to about 1/2" by 1 1/2".

Bake for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown, and then let it cool completely on foil on rack. Once cooled, peel foil from cookies, and place them, one at a time, topside down on cookie sheet. Return to oven for 1-2 minutes or until soft.

Roll into cylinder shape starting on long side, and let them cool on the rack. Spread melted chocolate on one end of each cookie.

Allow chocolate to set, or eat right away - by now you’re already having so much fun, and you’re working hard, so go ahead and reward yourselves!

This recipe makes 30 chocolate lace wafers, which can be stored in tightly covered container for up to 1 week.
